Purchased 2004 Mini Cooper S

Yesterday I purchased a 2004 Mini Cooper S with 28000 miles. The car was a little dirty but according to car fax had only been driven 2000 miles in the past 2 years by it's 83 year old owner. The car drives out well and the only problem I had was a bad connection to the overhead clock (repaired). I believe I got a good deal at $12,500.

My question is I only got one remote key as the other one was lost. What is the least expensive way to get a duplicate? The dealer says $141 for a new key.

Anything else I should look for? I have changed the oil and air filter.

Thanks for any assistance!

My dealer cut the key and programmed it for me for the price

I just bought a 2003 Mini Cooper S yesterday. It came with only one key. I called the dealership here in San Francisco and they told me it will cost anywhere from $150-$250 depending on the VIN number and then if I wanted to have the remote door lock/unlock it will be another $200. So i'm looking at around $400 for a key? Is that right?

I told him what if I went to ebay and bought one of those blank uncut keys. He said i could do that and bring it to them to program for $190.

When I told him i had a 2003 Mini, he said I could just have the key cut and it will probably work for the doors and start the car without it having to be programmed? Is this true? This is just going to be a spare key. I want to go this route if it works. I see the uncut keys on ebay going for about $20.

Thanks
