Replacement of Harmon Kardon Stereo Help

Hi new friends,

I have a 03 R52 that I just purchased with a HK sound system, and it came with a blown amp. I decided to upgrade the stereo to one with modern features (Bluetooth, XM, USB, etc) and had a question.

The Crutchfield instructions say to run new speaker wires, but I'm wondering if I can't just cut and solder new connections to the existing wires and call it good?

I know the HK system is 2ohm and 99.9% of other stereos are 4ohm so I need to replace everything, but wires don't matter do they? Why would Crutchfield say to run new wires (which seems massively time consuming).

Thanks!!
Jay

Hi Jay. My cousin use to work at a car stereo place. He said you don't have to replace the wires but he does recommend it. He said the thicker gauge wires will bring better sound.

Thanks, that's good to know. I think I'd rather just have a tiny bit worse sound as compared to running new wires which looks like a major pain considering how many there are, and they run through the doors.

Appreciate the reply!!
