Why does my Mini Cooper S 2006 have a cvt?

Hey guys, I am a long time reader and first time poster. I did my research before I bought my Mini and from that research I found out it was important to stay away from CVT transmissions. Well all automatic Coopers had a CVT. So I lost hope. Then I found continous posts on how all Mini Cooper S's except the convertabiles did NOT have a CVT tranny. I even asked the guy at the Mini dealer if this was true and he said YES, that Mini Cooper S changed the autos to 6 speed Automatic. I said PERFECT, I'm on my way to find one of those then.

Well I bought one 2 months again a 2006 Mini Cooper S

Found the Tranny kinda wonky after a month and took it into the dealer. Dealer tell me that the tranny is a CVT and thats why it may drive differently. I told them Noooooooo its not a CVT, those cars did not come with CVT trannys. The mechanic insisted and told me he seen it and even knows it by the way it drives. He also showed me the Computer codes and CVT tranny was part of the code.

So I left there angry. Why in the world does MY Mini Cooper S 2006 have a CVT transmission? I spent 6 months searching for a car to avoid that tranny and I got it...Can this be true or does the mechanic not know what he is talking about?
