My Mini calls for 87 octane (reg). I will run studded snows next year like I do on all my cars. It seems to be no lower than my 9-3 Saab and that car has always been fantastic in snow and on ice. In my opinion studs are the way to go.

I have the manual in front of me. Minimum AKI rating in Cooper S,John Cooper works 89 Cooper 87. Since our rating system here in the US is five points lower than Europe I wonder if that is taken into consideration. Anyhow if I need to increase the octane I will. My Saab called for a 91 octane and I always ran 87.135 thousand and it still runs like a top. So far the Cooper is running fine on 87.

Thanks for the gas requirements & for letting us know how it will run in the snow. We get lots of it. We broke a record this year, 114.3 inches & over 40 days of continuos snow on the ground. My Corolla did fine w m&s tires.

Thanks,
Dave

For most of the past winter I had no problems whatsoever driving mine in the snow (about 4" max on the roads when I was on them). My MINI (a base hardtop) was very catlike and secure and I was extremely pleased with its performance. Then, one really horrible commute in about 8" of ice/slush/snow induced me to resolve that any forcast of 6" or more will involve a call in to work that I am NOT coming!

Admittedly, I was most worried that some idiot on the road was going to slide into my beloved MINI--which increased the stress of the commute exponentially. MINI and I got through the commute in 1 piece.

JMBL,

That's white knuckle driving for sure! I don't like driving that way even in an SUV. Many of the truck drivers it seems just fly though that stuff, I can't usually tell where the road is at that point! Glad that's done for this year!

Thanks again for your replies,
Dave

i have a 2007 cooper s. and at about 30,000 miles it just stalled on me one day took it to the dealer and they had to change the spark plugs and said to use nothing but premium in it. and if i ever had the same issue and the manuf. wanted the gas tested and wasnt premium in it they wouldnt fix the problem so. i would ask mini cause i was switching it up between mid and reg but not anymore
