Replacement Key - 2007 Mini Cooper R56

Hey Guys,

Has anyone had any look getting replacement key fobs from anyone other than the dealer?

I have found various ones on ebay both used and new and programmed and not. Can these keys be cut and programmed anywhere else? All the locksmiths I've currently spoken to either won't do it or say they can't. Dealer wants over 300$+ to order one precut and programmed from MINI.

Here is the one I am speaking about

Mini Brand New Virgin Chip Keyless Entry Transponder Key Remote Transmitter Fob | eBay

Hopefully I haven't been wasting time and this can be done. I want a second key for family member and just in case the other is lost. I can't afford 300$+ for a key.

Appreciate any help avaliable!

Thanks

EDIT, I realize that I might have posted in the wrong forum, if so will a MOD please move?

If you have a hardtop the key should be like this :
Mini Cooper Smart New Key Remote Control 7321 Keyless Transmitter Entry Fob | eBay

I think the convertibles used the one you have listed.
I purchased one and still had to go to the dealer for cutting/programming and that still cost $125

I called a dealer near me and they said no go on programming or cutting. key is supposedly ordered for the car using the VIN. I am starting to believe I'm just going to fork over 300$

I've also heard that certain dealers do not have the "machine" to do the programming .
I tried one dealer and they said no , called another dealer that was BMW and Mini and they said yes , since they had both brands they had bought the machine
