2011 Convertible Rear Gate Latch going crazy
 

500 miles from nearest dealer, 20,000 miles on car.

Car was in the rain, Rear trunk latch began to open when car was started and placed in Drive. Found rear gate had a lot of water, inches deep, inside. Removed drain plug from bottom of rear gate and water drained out.

Problem still occurred and also notice that with car off, key fob removed that the rear gate lock will continually cycle.

Cannot open Trunk with latch above rear license plate?

When trunk opens slightly, light inside compartment comes on. Battery goes dead overnight.

When Rear Gate is open and laying flat, lock does not cycle, but light is on.

Removed fuse for trunk light.

Now battery remains ok as light is not coming on.
Lock no longer randomly cycling,
Rear Lock Mechanism still does not work, trunk must be opened with key fob.

What say you experts?

sounds like bad switch in the plate unit (stuck on )

Thanks, i think so too, Mini going to fix it next weekend under warranty but I have to drive to Denver, Ah well:(
