2016 mini too fast in reverse up hill (manual)

Just bought a 2016 Mini S JCW with a stick. Drives beautifully, but our driveway has a steep slope and backing out up the hill is a problem. When you let the clutch out it wants to accelerate too quickly without any gas. If I try to slow it down with the brakes it chugs and wants to stall. The only way to do it is by riding the clutch and feathering it to the top. Pretty sure this will significantly shorten the life of the clutch. Are there adjustments for this or would hill assist cause this? Any help would be appreciated.

Nope, hill assist hold the brakes untill you let off the clutch and brake.

Yeah, I didn't think so. Just fishing.
