Blown Engine Looking for Options

I am still fighting this one. I have a 2008 s, my engine blew the other day, dealer said it was from a water hose under front spoiler that punctured. Engine over heated and locked. It happened in seconds. No warning, the car is under waranty with only 31000 miles. Dealer said it is not covered, the hose bracket actually let loose yet it is still not covered. My insurance compant is checking it tomarrow, they may or may not cover it.

My questions are:
1. Should I have the dealer put a remanufacture motor in.
2. Have it rebuilt, if so does anyone know a good mini mechanic in southern california.
3. Have someone rebuild it but since it is out add more horse power, if so any ideas.
4. But the motor myself and put it in.
Dealer says remanufactured motor is 3600 dollars. Labor to install is 2800 dollars.

thanks

No offence but I'm not buying it happened in seconds there is no way a motor will freeze up in seconds. We drained all coolant and oil and the car ran for 45 minutes before freezing up.

I'd see if you can find a wrecked mini to get the motor out of.
Search car-parts.com under BMW and see if there are any close to you
I found a 9K motor for $600

no offence taken but you were not there. The time between the puncture and the actual failure is unknown, however when the the oil light flashed , seconds later the car stopped, no worning other than a quick oil light. It could have been 45 minutes before the light came on. But no warning.

Was it difficult to tie in the computer stuff, I am assuming you did your own install.

Reduced value

BMW just put in a new remanufactured motor in my 31000 mile 08 s. They said they will not trade it in because the new motor just dropped its value by $4,000.00 to $5,000.00 even though it comes with a 2 year unlimited milege warranty.

go figure

Who lowered the book value the mini dealer ?

Unless it shows up in the carfax or other reports you should not have any trouble trading it in
