cutout on acceleration

[align=left]I have an 02 mini with 11k miles, manual trans and a new clutch. It has a strange stumble or cutout on acceleration after it is warmed up and been driven for about 20-30 mins. It seems to come at about 3500 rpm and lasts for just a second or two, but it's almost as if the throttle is closed completly (although the throttle position is unchanged) the engine continues to run, but it is very annoying. Has anyone experienced this, and do you have a resolution? The guy I bought it from says they all do this, which I find hard to believe.
He said that replacing the chip with an aftermarket one would fix the problem, but at 700$, I hope it isn't required. Thanks in advance for any help!
