elec failure

Just got a 2002 cooper. Several times the electric system has "burped" while driving. Lights flash off for a second and "distance travelled" on speedo resetsto zero. Last time I got gas the ecectric system went totally dark. Waited a few minutes and it came back up... then burped again about 10 miles later. Whats up? Thanks for any leads. B

RE: elec failure

I have a 2004 MINI with the same problems, only worse. Lets see...the temp guage reads stone cold, then indicates overheating, The tach and speedo stop working, then start up again creating a windshield wiper effect, the climate control sometimesdoes not work, the check engine, flat tire monitor, and dsc lights stay on, and so on. My dealer replaced a faulty clutch plate and when I got the car back, this all started happening. Now it's been almost 2 months. I've been back several times because the problem was supposedly fixed, (about a 45minride each way)and a trip out the parking lot proves otherwise. Does anyone out there have any insight on this problem???
