Frontal Impact, Blown A/C Compressor and Intercooler???

I have a 2008 S and was in an accident where a guy made an illegal left turn and I jack knifed him (not severely). When the shop started looking at it they let me know that the intercooler, as well as the a/c weren't working. Now they are telling me that it is not impossible, but is uncommon for a compressor to stop working from a minor accident. Therefore the cost might come out of my pocket if the insurance agency doesn't agree to pay it.

Does this sound right to you guys? Could it have just been a freak accident that my compressor failure coincided with me having an accident? Or is it more likely that the accident caused it?

Any help would be great, I don't know enough to speak intelligently to the guy at the shop and don't want to end up getting screwed.

Did they check for charge on the A/C ? It might have lost charge and froze up
Or it might be missing voltage to turn on the A/C clutch... Either could easily be caused by the crash...
I'd argue that it was working before now it's not must be caused by the accident
