was it something wrong with the assembly, or the cables?

I have been told my car is not faulty, but I have 2 witnesses, one of which was the chap who's car mine rolled into, and they have written a statement as my handbrake was on! - the garage took my car in for intensive tests and said 'the handbrake is not faulty but we have made minor adjustments'... ummm the handbrake wasn't faulty but they felt the need to do something to it - it came up 4 notches before and afterwards only came up 2 notches...

Im really not happy as I am aware they have recalled Mini2 in 1997 & 2001 but I have also seen other cases of handbrake failure - even on a 06' MC/Sport!

Im left with a £350 excess but im just totally devasted with the poor service from BMW & MINI - they never return our calls and just don't seem to care.

Hi Patrick

Thanks for your reply.... Regional Office?.. who are/where are they?

I have spoken with my local Mini Garage and BMW Customer Services but neither give a damn - Im going to write to the BMW MD as I think it is totally discusting.. especially when ive seen and heard of other Mini2 owners who have experienced the same problem. Im just gutted that I paid all that money for my 'dream car' and within 7 mths its been reversed into another car (by MINI dealership) and 2 days later it rolls into 2 cars with the handbrake on!.. Im starting to wish id kept my Ford Escort!

Wow...Im really surprised by the way you were/are being treated by BMW/Mini. We got mine off a used car lot. A week later the second gear synchro ring shreaded itself (out of warranty by 5000 miles). Mini took it in and looked at it, said it shouldn't have happened and there were no signs of abuse so they replaced the transmission for me free of charge. This was at the Cincinnati store.
