Hood Latch Stuck?

Hi there,

I'm a new owner of a used 2002 Mini. While trying to clean the hood latching mechanism I seemed to have left ina position that won't allow the hood to release on one side.

So my question is how can you open the hood if one side does not unlatch? Can you go through the headlight assembly or do you have to go through the inner wheel fender?

Thanks for you time.

RE: Hood Latch Stuck?

It is probably too late to tell you this but, just in case: I had the same problem. The answer is that you remove the relevant wheel and take off the wheel arch shield. That allows you lots of room to get to the locking mechanism. In my case part of the problem was that the cable at the release mechanism was frayed. You might want to consider replacing the entire cable. It is not expensive.

if the other side does not unlatch, you don't have to assemble the headlights.. since your hood had stucked and since you are a new owner, better let it be check by older car owners...hoods are exposed to scratches because they serve as shield for car engines. replacement like mercedes hoods is a good option..
