Just bought a 2004

Hello I'm the proud owner of an 04 S model with the john cooper works package. I failed to notice a clipped wire when I was inspecting the car and I cant figure out what it is. Its a single wire comming of the fuze box with a built in fuze, like you would use to power an amp, it's been cut and looks like it should connect to a wire that goes over the fire wall and then looks to go back down into the side of the air box.

Everything seems to work but I have yet to see the light on the dash flash I'm guessing it's the alarm. I've also noticed the outside temp always reads -40 F could this be the wire???

The previous owner replace the side mirrors so I wondering if the thermomitor has left disconnected.

Anyone know what this wire is?

I searched for a free download service manual but no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like it was an aftermarket add on might have been auxillary lights or something

That's what I thought but when I take the cover off the fuse box the original wire harness has a single wire comming off that leads to an inline fuse and then it's cliped. There is also another wire with a female plug not connected that runs back over the fire wall and then down into the side of the air filter box.

How do you test the alarm?
Does the light on the top of the dash ever blink?

Thx

Alarms are optional and all mini's have the dash light , just not connected unless it has the option

Interesting thanks for the tip I'll have to check my documentation and see if she has the alarm option. I thought it would be silly to make that alarm wire so accessible.

Looks like I'm going to have to pay the dealer a visit as I need to know
what that wire is and I also need to have the key reprogramed since it wont unlock the car.

Thanks

p.s. Anyone know a trust worthy Mini Mechanic in Orlando?

Orlando mini's a great place my car malfunctioned while I was at Disney , they picked up my car , repaired it and returned it all while I was at the park

Good to know thanks I called them about the cut wire I found and the werent very helpfull. I asked about reprogramming the key and they wanted $130 an hour labor which seems high to me.

I need some time to read up I'm hoping to find a few things like a:

Free downloadable service manual - I'd like to do the oil changes myself
Software used to reprogam the key -since the mini dealer said my owners manual was wrong and I would have to come in and user thier computer
General knowledge tips

Cheers
