Mini Gearbox Problems

Dear all, I would like to share some interesting information which I would like to pass on to all Mini owners. I was not aware but due to a NIGHTMARE!!! I have learnt a lot!!

I own a 03 Mini Cooper and the gearbox started making a very noisey whinning noise which started from the from the engine? Tried dipping the clutch when driving to see if the noise disappeared or reduced and yes it did. The BMW main dealer quoted me £1,700 just for a replacement gearbox, apparently there is a massive fault with 01-04 Mini Cooper & One's gearboxes, I would thought BMW would do a recall but no they like to charge you!!!

I found an excellent company call gearfix,if you type http://www.gearfix.co.uk into your web browser and go to their website its all fully explained on their site, I e-mailed them and they could provide me a recon gearbox & clutch for £599.00 supplied & fitted, which is affordable and reasonable. Excellent service, 12month warranty, also collection service for a small extra cost.
All I can say is if this problem has happened to you and you get quoted silly money for a fault which is not really yours go to Gearfix, my car is silent and runs like a dream which I Mini should.....:D
