It been just about a month since ive bought my 04 MINI cooper S with 84k miles. It has an dinan exhaust, intake, pulley, and chip.

Here is the deal, a week ago I was driving, and the car started to overheat so I shut it off immediately. After 30 minutes, I started it, and it drove fine for a week until today. I should mention I dont drive much, about 6-7 miles a day. Anyhow, same thing to do, once it started to overheat I closed it, but again now its not overheating.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

I hope this works for you since it work for me. Open your water gasket maybe it's just a bubble that is causing it. Over heating with mine mysteriously fix this issue once I opened the water gasket for Cooper. Best of luck!

 

Not exactly what the water gasket is? do you mean the expansion tank itself?

 

I think he means the radiator cap and "burbing" the system , Open on a cold radiator and start the car , you might need a rag to keep it from flying out and let it run.
Have you checked for proper level ? enough in the expansion tank?
Do the electric fans kick on ?

 

I apologized for misleading if any, but I was talking about the coolant part, not water gasket. Thank you all!

 

I know that minis up to '03 had leaky coolant tanks, supposedly they fixed the issue in the 03's and up with new tanks. I just ordered a new one for mine actually. Check the tank level, if you can see most of the fins inside you need more coolant. Feel under the tank, can you feel coolant? Is there any on the pan under the tank? Also, when driving or right after, see if you can smell coolant being burned up. It's pretty noticeable. Check your hose connections as well, as these all indicate problems with the tank.
