Question Oil change question for new mini

Got a 2009 Mini S convertible 13000 miles of mainly open road driving. Not city driving. Onboard computer says 9000 more miles before oil change. I can't believe 20,000 miles between oil changes? I grew up when we changed oil every 3,500 miles.

Someone please explain to me how oil can hold up for 20,000 miles. You know of coarse our Mini dealer says that's OK. Ya, they have to change it for free for the first three years.

My common sense says, 20,000 miles between oil changes is to long. Could I be wrong? Not me!

Thanks, Bob.

If it's a new to you it might have had the yearly low mileage oil change and a reset, and 6k on new oil ... Interval is 15k , I paid to have mine changed at 5k/10k then let mini change the last

We bought it new and there have been no oil changes. I like your advise on the inbetween changes. If nothing else it will make me feel better. Thanks.

Mini has a YEARLY low mileage option , if you drive less then 15k a year , they will change it out early on your 1 year anniversary.

yes I take mine to the quick lube place , $50 is cheap insurance to me

Default 2008 new Mini Cooper S oil change

Good policy to change at least @ 5,000 intervals. As the man said"Good insurance". Does anyone know how to reset the oil change interval notification on the 2008 Cooper S?
Thanks

To Reset Service Indicators such as the Oil Service Interval, or the Brake Wear Light, perform the following steps:
To enter the service Menu:

Do not press clutch / brake
Press Start button
Wait until the Car / revelant Service symbol disappears on the Rev counter display
Immediately after the symbol goes out - Press and hold Both buttons on the Rev Counter
Continue to hold - the system will run a dash light check
Continue to hold
Display will then show VIN / Menu, - continue to hold through this until the time Reappears on the display.
Now release Only the Right hand Button (trip reset) for about a second, and then press and hold again (whilst still holding the LH button)
After another second or 2 the display will show the Front Brake Symbol You Are
Now in the Service Menu
Use the BC Button (on indicator stalk) to scroll through to the relevant symbol - eg Oil Reset or Rear Brakes
To Reset the warning indicator light - Press & Hold the BC Button at the revelant symbol until RESET appears - then press and hold again until the process is complete.
Turn Off and On the Ignition again - Warning should now have gone!
Good Luck !
