Oil Filter Problem

Ok...I went out and bought the special socket, got new oil, and the oil filter. This is the first time I'm personally changing the oil in this car (my sister's car), but I've done extensive work on classic cars (I don't consider myself a novice).

The problem. I can't get the oil filter canister to spin!!!! It is on so tight that I'm lead to believe that all the local garage that has changed her oil NEVER took off the oil filter, for 50k miles!! What should I do...I've used PB blaster, I took a breaker bar to it and it won't budge. I'm afraid I'm going to crack the canister.

Can I prove that they never changed the filter? I'm upset that they've taken advantage of a girl!!!

It's hard to prove/disprove that the filter has been change or not ...

The problem I see most is the shops don't change the "O" ring that comes with , then has to overtighten the crap out of it to prevent leaks ...

I'm betting that the case here as well ... easiest thing to suggest is to get the new canister from the dealer then go to town on the old one
