Oil Pan Replaced Twice?
 Now that my 2005 Mini has just gone off warrantee, the dealer has found over $2,000 worth of repairs needed, including an oil pan that was replaced less than a year ago. Other repairs they claim are needed include: rear main seal, valve cover, belt tensioner... on and on. The oil pan makes me suspicious that this whole thing is a ploy to get $$$. Anyone have an oil pan go out twice in less than a year?

What was the car taken in for ??
Why was the pan replaced last time ?? What was the reason this time ?? Not heard of any oil pan issues |
oil plan saga
Thanks for your reply. The plot thickens.
The car was taken in because the rear hatch latch (replaced once already) is broken. While I had the car in, the dealer did a "courtesy engine check" and found a whole slew of things wrong with the car. The car has just gone off warranty, and on its last under-warranty check a couple months ago, everything was fine. For me, the tip off that something is fishy was the oil plan replacement. This was replaced about 7 months ago, because they found it to be leaking when I had the car in for a routine oil change. Today I took my Mini to another mechanic and none of the list of things that need attention showed up. I smell a rat. I still don't have my rear latch operable. I just no longer have a Mini dealer I can trust to fix it. |
