Overheating issue

I have a Mini Cooper 03 plate which i have been having issues with over the past couple of months.

My car keeps overheating, one min the car has water in it the next its all gone, i am having to check it on a daily basis before i drive the car i have to check the water to find sometimes it is full and others it is empty. Everytime i stop the car at the end of a journey the fan comes on and is very loud, it can be on for several mins before it turns off again, i rarely hear the fan on when the car is moving.l

I took it into a garage today to see if i had a leak but they couldnt find any leaks from the car. they advised that the car shouldnt be running the way it is and there is something clearly long as the above happens. They advised they touched a wire and as soon as they had the fan started up so they think it might be an electrical fault, however after reading some info online im not 100%, however in the past month my parking sensors have gone too so maybe it is?!

I have had this issue for several months now and am going to have to take it into a BMW garage, i was just wondering if anyone else has had issues like this or knows what could be causing it?

The most common cause of coolant loss on your model is the thermostat leaking. The coolant pools on top of the trans and typically will not leave a puddle in your driveway. As far as the rear sensors, most times it is caused by the power steering pump fan being seized. The sensors and the fan share a fuse and when the fan seizes the fuse blows.

Thanks for the information.

How would i be able to see if the problem with the overheating would be the issue you advise? Is there anything i can look out for?
i drove the car for about an hour yesterday and when i switched the engine off the fan didnt come on, the bonnet wasnt hot either so it seems ok on longer journeys.

Also, is it worth trying to change the fuse before taking it into BMW for them to look at?

Thanks

It's worth checking the fuse.. if not blown, not much of a point in replacing it.
