Hi everyone, and thanks for taking the time to read.

I recently purchased my 1st MINI, a 2011 Cooper S. I got it checked at a BMW service place, with great reviews, before buying. Everything checked out great.

About 1 week after purchasing the car, a very high pitched constant sound upon starting after 5+ hours of not being driven. This doesn't sound like a squeal of a belt issue, at least none I've ever heard. It doesn't go away after the engine gets going. It does fluctuate a bit when pushing the gas, but it doesn't go away. Ultimately, if I turn the car off and start it up again there is no issue at all, whether I do it as soon as I hear the noise or if I wait, it doesn't matter, off then on again and no more sound.

Any information would be appreciated

Also, as a side note, when I had my neighbor look at it with me we noticed this seems to be missing (see attached images)

My apologies for the repeat, but my images did not show up on the previous post, and when I went to edit, there seemed to be no place to add them

Thanks

Matthew

Are you possibly able to post up a video of the noise you're hearing. Can you determine what part of the engine the noise is coming from? The hose in the diagram you have posted is the vent pipe here.

That pipe is for the cooper S from 5/2011+ production. Whats the month / year production.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I'm having the exact same problem, has this ever been solved?

The dummy cap must be leaking, see this post:

Hi,
sorry images of the parts don't help.sounds like a fuel pump issue, they are well known for this issue.

Nzr56coopers - Do you have this issue right now?
