power steering...sometimes

I have an '04 Mini S. For the last 6 months or so the power steering in the car has just randomly kicked off. It is not accompanied by any sound or other sign. Simply put, one second it is fine the next, I have to strong arm to turn. More often than not, the power steering will kick back in after I turn the car off and return to it anywhere from 30 min to a few hours later. I have taken the the car to several techs and no one seems to be able to fix the problem. Has ayone experienced a probolem like this before?

Check the PLUGS to the power steering unit , Weather and time corrodes the contacts and causes intermittant conections and the steering to cut out
