R53 Rattling

R53 Rattling
I have a 2004 Mini Cooper S (r53) with about 83000 miles on it. It is a manual. Recently it has been producing a sort of rattling noise particularly when I have been driving for a while and have to come to a stop and idle. It typically will stop after I am in motion for a relatively short period of time. It also occurs is I turn the car on (from a cool engine) and then idle for an extended period of time without ever moving. Due to the inconsistent noise I do not think that it is a supercharger issue. I think it may be the fan that cools the engine as it is only when the engine is hot. Also I live in Georgia so the outside temperature does not help in cooling it down. Can anybody give me any ideas on what is wrong with it? If you need anymore information just ask.
Thanks

No, I can record the sound if that would help. I typically hear it if I idle for an extended period of time or if I drive extensively on interstate and then get caught in bumper to bumper traffic (once again extended idling). It typically goes away once I get up to speed again for a while. The sound is not present immediately after starting the engine

so I have quite rattle upon cold start up that is no existent when warm or when driving, and it does go away when the clutch is depress. is this a timing chain issue?

I'm thinking a clutch might needed in the near future for your R53. How many miles are on the original clutch/throw out bearing?
