Default Radar Detector Questions

Hi,
I recently purchased a 2012 Countryman S and want to install a radar detector. I am a loyal Escort radar detector owner and I'm looking at the X-50 or Redline. I would like to have the unit installed with a permanent cord to avoid the ugly power cord to the 12v adapter port. Any advise on whether it is easier to tap into the rear view mirror power or run back to the fuse panel?
Thanks

I personally think it'd be better to hardwire it into the fuse panel.
