Rear turn signals/indicators very dim

Just bought a 2016 Mini S JCW. All signals working but the left relay is blinking fast. Not sure if it's related, but the rear signals are very dim, but the tail and brake lights are bright. I do have a 90 day warranty and they want me to change the bulbs, but a quick search shows that it could be a bigger problem. The rear signals are sequential and are pretty pricey. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would try the bulbs first
Do fastest, easiest, least expensive option first.

try one side and see what happens
