The SES is NOT the Check Engine Light
It is telling you that there is a Service due not that there is a trouble

You can reset it with a higher order scanner , or dealer but I would check what is due

Strange....i looked around here as well as Northamericanmotoring.com and there were are lot of references to Evaporative Canister problems, O2 sensor issues, and the ever-popular gas cap issue. The manual even says that there has been an emissions issue whenever this light comes on. I just got this car back in January and as far as I can tell, nothing is due to be replaced/serviced. Replaced rear brake pads, replaced tranny fluid - that's about it. Went to a local BMW/Mini service shop - the M shop ( themshop.com ) and they were nice enough to scan the code. "Leak in the evap system" the guy said - being careful NOT to give me the exact code. He reset it and its out right now. Will check O2 sensors asap....ordered a replacement gascap at another local parts store - etyparts.com.
