Shifter issue

I looked but couldnt find anything close to my issue. 2006 mini s 6 speed.
Supercharged mini, 6 speed, drives forward excellent in all gears. Clutch feels excellent, You try reverse and its first gear. I thought maybe the top shifter is the cause because it has an aftermarket cravenspeed brand, but doesnt look like it, i cant get it to pop in reverse where you would feel a resistance. Removed exhaust to look at cables from below but looks ok. Removed air box and fooled with it, seems like the shifter linkage isnt pulling the rod as long as it needs , not sure if you have seen this before, once i pull it out with the screw driver its in reverse and the wheels would back out. Am trying to figure out whether this is a stretched cable issue or the linkage piece on transmission is just jammed. Lubricated it but didnt work
