Vibration in suspension 2009 S convertible
How to make a long question short!!!!
From day one I've had a high speed vibration like a rear tire out of balance, around 60 - 70mph. Not bone jarring, just enough to know it's there. Had Mini check tires for balance. it's still there. Here's the kicker. Changed out worn out tires recently and also upgraded to 18" rims. Top quality wheels and rims. Vibration still there after 3 trips to have the tires rebalanced. Is this a mini trait!!!! A mild vibration coming from the rear area between 60 - 70 MPH. Thanks for any input. Bob, 2009 Mini S convertible manual shift. |
Have you had ALIGNMENT and Toe In checked ?

Had 23000 miles on changed out tires and wheels. There was no sign of abnormal tire wear which would have been a sign of a A/TI problem. I might be wrong but I've always heard that alignment does not cause vibration unless your tires are severely scalloped from an alignment problem. Also my vibration is coming from the rear. Steering wheel has no vibration
I'm starting to thing that I might have an out of round rotor. That would be a first for me. Might have them put the car up on a lift with the tires off and run it up to 70mph. If a vibration, that's the problem. It's a long shot. I took your previous advise on wheel and tire size and no steering stops. All your sizes and info worked out. Thanks, Bob. |
If the alignment is off it can cause the car to dogleg /track crooked and that might cause a vibration , although it normally causes tire wear issues it's possible it might be scuffing them or the tou in might be off.
You can not get the rear to vibrate on a lift as the drive wheels are all that will move I doubt it can be the rotors you'd have breaking issues pedal vibrations |

Had 23,000 miles on changing tires and rims. There were no signs of abnormal wear, which would have been a sign of A / IT problem. I could be wrong, but I always heard that the adaptation does not cause vibration, unless your deck is seriously frayed an alignment problem. Also, my vibration coming from behind.

Problem solved
After three trips and three failed rebalance efforts at the St Augustine Tire Kingdom I moved on to another tire dealership to help me with my problem.
This new dealership rebalanced all four tires and my vibration is gone. Tire Rack has been great during this mess since they sold me the 4 tires and rims. They even reimbursed me for my expansive's with Tire Kingdom and even sent me a replacement tire that tire Kingdom said was out of round. I now wonder if they were wrong on that also. THANKS TIRE RACK. Bottom line ---- stay clear of Tire Kingdom stores. Thanks everyone for your suggestions and comments. Bob. |
