What would you do????
I have a 2006 Automatic Base Convertible Cooper. It now has 106k miles on it. I purchased it used with 96k miles last June. It's a beautiful car and I have enjoyed it. However, just learned that I need a new transmission. It has already had a new transmission at 55k miles based on history. I am getting quotes of $6-$7000.00 to do this which is more than half of what I paid for the car. The BMW dealer ran a diagnostic test on it and unfortunately, reprogramming the transmission isn't going to fix it.
Would you try to sell this car (letting people know the truth about it of course), or, would you spend the money to fix it? I have been researching used transmissions but so far, no luck. Also, they said it will need some suspension work. My head is splitting today trying to figure out what to do, so, I figured I would get some feedback from other mini lovers. Thanks in advance! |
Is the BMW dealership also a MINI dealership ? Or is it just a BMW dealership ? Take it to MINI if not and have them hook it up and read the settings.
Its a CVT transmission in the Base cooper automatics from 2002 -2006 and Base MINI convertible automatic from 2005 - 2008. They have been know to have some problems. Thanks |

Thanks Yes, took it to the local Hilton Head BMW, and ran the diagnostic test. Only to learn what I already knew. Plus, I can't stand going there. They always try to get me to trade it in for another car on the lot, and give me a bunch of BS about my car. I hope I never have to go there again. Anyway, thanks so much! |
Your Welcome,
Sounds like you have things in order now. Some owners are reporting changing of the fluid / filter extends the life of the CVT for the future. Let me know if you need anything. :) |
