2009 Mini cooper s overheating issue

hello, recent my mini has been acting a bit funny, ill be driving and suddenly the signal that indicates overheating will come up on the dash. With no previous indication of over heating, ill turn the heat on a bit and it usually takes car of it. I had the thermostat housing replaced back in november and when that happened they didnt turn off the check engine light, and i have a code reader and it just said that the coolant was too hot so i just assumed it was from the thermostat housing going bad and ive been driving with it since, i also had the issue with the radiator fan running after the car was turned off and now that stopped i dont know if that would have anything to do with that.

any help would be appeciated thanks

Check your coolant level. Is it low? You need to check that first and see if you notice any coolant leaks in the system. Clear the old check engine light and if it comes back on pull the code.
