3rd brake light replacement on 2005 mini cooper

I'm having a problem replacing 3rd brake light, have managed to remove the old one (after a struggle!) but cannot disconnect the wires from it, on videos I've watched on Youtube the connection just snaps off but mine doesn't! Any help appreciated, thanks!
