engine stalling out
My 2005 Mini Cooper has less than 37 thousand miles on it. I find that when I come to a quick stop--as in coming off a highway ramp and then having to slow down very quickly...that my engine sometimes does a little "shudder" and stalls out. It does NOT idle irregularly--seems stabkle in that regard. But has stalled out on me 6-10 times in the coming to a quick stop experience. Took it to a mechanic and he said I'd have to reproduce the experience for him. Couldn't do it. ????

I'd check fuel filter for troubles

I did the tune up of sorts...new plugs, new ignition coil and seafoam in 2 places...gas tank and through a vacuum tube from the charcoal cartridge (upstream) directly into the engine. Mini coughed, spit, sputtered, stalled, choked, and then let him rest. Started engine 10 minutes later, a large cloud of WHITE smoke...carbon burning off for 10 minutes. Took him for a ride...hard acceleration better, much more power, and no stall out or rpm drops at hard or soft stops. Other side bene...CVT seems smoother.
Hope that helps someone. Dave |
