Navigation System Specs

I'm looking at the Mini Cooper Hardtop 2 Door seen here:

Hardtop 2 Door

I'm wondering how the navigation system XL is like, and if it has active lane guidance like a Garmin GPS:

I know the Mini Portable Navigation System XL was essentially a Garmin product, but I'm not so sure about the embedded system in the model i'm interested it. I can't find any footage of the new GPS in use, so I can't tell how it performs. There's some grainy footage of it but it doesn't reveal anything about how it projects information.

Is the built in navigation system as good as a standalone GPS? Or should I not bother with it and just buy a standalone Garmin?

Any advice or info about the navigation system would be great, like refresh rate, accuracy, etc.

Thanks!

GPS Navigation System

Someone referred me to: http://libraryofmotoring.info/pdf/ma...manual2003.pdf for user info. But, it does not include 'how to use the navigation system.
My (new-to-me) R53 Mini has the Navigation System....but, without a Disk.
The seller said "....all I have to do is to buy a disk, and load it...". Is it that simple? And where do I go (besided the dealer) to purchase the disk?
Is the GPS Garmin?
