Default 2008 Mini Cooper Chili with a bad cylinder head

Hello. New to this forum, and to Mini Coopers. I have a situation that I'm hoping someone here can help me with. My 2008 Mini Cooper Chili model overheated and cracked the thermostat housing. I figured it also cracked the cylinder head or at least warped it so I removed it and brought it to my local machine shop for repair. It's been 6 weeks and counting and they haven't even started working on it. I think it's time to move on right? I have a chance to purchase an 06 S model with a bad tranny but good engine. My question is: Are any of the parts on these two models interchangeable? I've done searches online but nothing close to what I need comes up. I either put the tranny from the 08 base model on the 06 S model or the cylinder head from the 06 S model into the 08 base model.

Sound corn fusing but I'm hoping someone has tried this before.
