Newbie looking to buy 1st MINI
Hey everyone...I'm newbie to the forum and to MINI's in general. I've loved them for a long time and am looking at buying my 1st. My only hesitation is that any future repairs are going to be a nightmare since MINI is owned by BMW. I've heard that BMW's can only be repaired by certified folks and can get expensive quick...are MINI's the same? Just trying to get some feedback before I buy one of the coolest cars ever!!!
Thanks!
Jeremy
Update: Just found this site: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/mini.html. Tons of MINI owners complaining about experiencing super costly transmission problems under 75K miles. This is why I'm hesitant...any thoughts?
Thanks!

RE: Newbie looking to buy 1st MINI
Hi Jeremy! I too am looking to buy a MINI. They are totally awesome! I am just beginning my research on them and absolutly love what I am learning. I test drove one last weekend and had the time of my life! I too am interested in the maintence of these cars. From what I hear they have a rather expensive up keep. Hopefully someone will help us!

RE: Newbie looking to buy 1st MINI
I think that in general, Minis are pretty reliable, and usually don't need a lot of repairs. Most simple stuff can be done outside the dealer for a reasonable cost. The electronics are tied into a computer system that is pretty much unservicable by anyone other than a Mini dealer. But if you start looking around, life is getting to be that way in nearly all cars.
