S model MPG

Hello readers new member here. got a problem and looking for advise: JUst bought a 2003 s model ,105000 miles. Looks and runs fine. Only getting 24 MPG. 26 hwy maybe at best. No check engine light. WHAT the HECK? anyone got any input?

The early mini s models weren't rated all that high mpg wise were they? The supercharger does cause a parasitic drag on the engine. The earler ones also had problems with carbon buildup on the valves because of the egr valve location. One of the MINI websites sells a kit that allowed you to spray Seafoam engine cleaner directly into intake while engine is running to clean them.

Hi please beware of spraying anything into the engine to clean the valves, can and may cause major damage to the engine,I would rather use a fuel additive to clean the top end gently.spark plugs, air filter and timing can all be a cause of low mpg.
