Turbo?
 

Is the engine in the 2006 Mini cooper the same as the Mini cooper S??? Reason being that if i wanted to drop in a turbo,would it be on borrowed time? I know that like Mustangs,putting a supercharger on a V-6 compared to a V-8 is not the same,I mean engine components are different in those two cars....so, in order to maintain a piece of mind before I start to even consider a turbo system later on (or soon) would I be in the same engine components arena as a Mini S? What systems and size is recomemded,company?, or are superchargers the way to go?

Not the same engine. I've only ever heard of one turbo Cooper and I don't know how it's holding up. The engine isn't nearly as strong as the S. The transmission won't take the extra power either, they're really weak.

I agree. if you want a really fast mini, getan S, then modify it. You could spend a fortune on a standard Mini and maybe make it up to the power level of a stock S, except it wouldn't be as durable. You'd probably screw up it's resale value too. A modified standard kind of screws up what it was designed to be; a sporty, reliable little economy car.

I'm in the market for a new Cooper S, and i will be modifying it. does anyone know of other turbo kits other than the one ALTA has, theirs is not street legal unless you call them and get a custom setup. i've seen another kit from a pennsylvania company but i cant seem to find it anymore?
