17" Run Flat tires and wheel damage

I am about to purchase a 2009 Mini Clubman JCW. A 2000 SAAB Viggen will be traded in the deal. I had experienced a lot of bent wheels with the SAAB (poor NE roads) which had low profile 17" tires. Do the low profile Run Flat Tires on the Mini, which have stiff side walls, tend to transfer even more road bump energy to the wheels thus increasing the possibilty of bent wheels?

I've not had any troubles with the 17's and have 18's now ... even lower profile...
if it's a concern go to 16's ...
Most Mini dealers offer tire/rim insurance ... might be a wise investment if you have had bad luck

FYI,
I've had run flats on my 2004 Cooper S and loved their handling and convenience. I've never had wheel damage with the exception of hitting a curb. And, I replaced the run flats with regular tires because it cut down on the road noise. Just thought you might like the additional information since you're crossing over to the fun side.
Have fun!

Thanks for the response. I now own a 2009 JCW Mini Clubman and its a blast. Faster and more responseive than my ole' trusted SAAB Viggen which I was hesitant to trade in. Just installed some Bridgstone Blizzak RFT snows. Just need some quality time with this Mini monster to see how it runs and confirm it needs little maintenance.
