What Rims

Hi Guys! I'm new to Mini World, just bought my 2006 mini cooper awhile ago. My question is which rims should I get? Any rims you can recomend? Is 17" better than 18"? I'm also looking at the 17' stock of the cooper s. I think their nice and how much I can buy those with tires included.Doyou recomend spacers..please help I'm a newbie here. Thanks.

RE: What Rims

Ok let's see here... the bigger the rim you get the less tire you have to protect your rim and also you butt (it gets bumpy!) A set of the 17" S-Lite wheels that come with the factory sport package will run you about $600 from a private seller with tires, usually run flats. I would HIGHLY recomend getting something light... Team Dynamics, SSR, Gram Lites, etc.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the quick reply [sm=smiley20.gif]last question..... if I'm gonna put the 17" S lite wheels..what size of spacers do I need to install in the front and back?

RE: What Rims

Anybody.... what's a good size for spacers for front and back?

RE: What Rims

No spacers required.
You need to be aware that the S-lites with runflats are extremely unforgiving of any road imperfection. You will feel every bump, ripple and pebble in your path. Lots of folks trade out of this combo just to get a better ride. Oh, and the S-lites aren't light! The combo weighs in at 50 lbs per corner. Prepare to see your gas mileage take a turn for the worse, as well as reduced acceleration.
If you are anywhere near me, I'll let you bolt on the set to see how you like them. (trust me, you won't).

RE: What Rims

^ Yeah, the S-Lites aren't light. I have a set for winter tire use. The only time you'll need spacers with any wheel is if you have a big brake kit. And still, only some wheels need them.

RE: What Rims

17 or 18 inch rims with either Toyo Proxes T1-S or T1-R tires. Go for 17’s if you want a smoother and slightly faster ride.

RE: What Rims

If the wheels are 17" and are 149.99 $ each, are they any good-- and what do the average 17" OEM wheels weigh- I'm still in the preliminary Tuning stages, and i was also wondering, is 17 lbs./wheel heavy?

Adam 11-05-2007 02:28 PM

RE: What Rims

$150 is a good price, 17lbs a wheel is pretty light.

Can you still put in spacers for the wide stance look?

RE: What Rims

How's 16" stock? Does this give better ride compared to 17"? How about 17" with normal tires (not run flat)?

16s will be smoother than 17s and regular tires will be smoother than run-flats.

I just bought my first Mini Cooper S 2008 and they come stock with 16's run flat. I find you feel every single little imperfection in the road. But then again with a lower right sporty car its to be expected.

PS cars amazing....LOVE IT

RE: What Rims

Just put rims and tires on. Went 18's with NON runflats. It rides IS so much better than the stock runflat rubber.
Purchased a compresser kit and a can of green slim to fix any flat. The whole kit fits in the rearon the pass side in the
hatch.

See "before and after" Thread

Adam............................ If you have a flat with a low pro..... your going to need a rim anyway. Get over it!:)
