'07 Cruise Control install

'07 Cruise Control install
I recently bought my first Mini, It's an '07 Mini S, automatic. It has the 3 spoke steering wheel.
I want to add cruise control.
The research I've come up with so far has lead me to believe I need the following items:
- The multi function steering wheel (MFSW) "pads with wires"- available to purchase ($177) on line.
- I also would need a new steering column "switch/wiperstalk" ($493), again on line. I'm told my VIN# requires this new part- The folks selling these parts are telling me that.
- Then a BMW or MINI dealer computer re-programming (1 hour).
Question #1- Am I on track so far?? If so, let's continue-
I understand the Automatic tranny "paddles" steering wheel "plug in" receptable, located under the airbag, would be used for the newly added MFSW switches/pads (Cruise and radio).
Question #2- Do I lose my Automatic shifter (up/down) paddles then?
Where am I on this install- doing okay, or just forget about it and buy a different MINI?? LOL-
ps: We had a German couple (a doctor) visit in our campground this past summer and he told me that the "MINI" branch of BMW is the most profitible division of BMW-
Thanks for any input into this project- We love our 23k mile "Mellow Yellow" little beauty-
