Default 2010 Mini Cooper S throttle body change

So I have a 2010 Mini Cooper S that is kicking throttle body codes and going into limp mode. My questions are:

A) How can I tell if it is truly the throttle body that needs replaced?

B) If I do replace it on my own, will I need a dealer to reprogram if I buy a new one?

C) If I buy a used one, will I need a dealer to reprogram?

Post the P codes when you can. According to the Bentley Manual, you'll need a MINI scan tool to reset the ECM memory and reset the throttle plate adaptation values.

I have a mini scan tool. and have cleared the codes once but am waiting for the new throttle body to do it again. Almost every code was throttle body value too high, then too low, then permanently stuck.

Thanks for the response, btw. When you say mini scan tool, do you mean a Mini Cooper specific scan tool?

Yes, a MINI/BMW specific scan tool. Not a generic one. The throttle body can get gummed up and cause some issues. If you get the codes again be sure to post them up.

I cleaned the original throttle body and reinstalled it with no luck. Installing one from a donor car possibly tonight. Hopefully this will fix it

Cleared codes again with a generic scanner, swapped the throttle body with a donor. Problem is gone and running like a champ again. Thanks for your help Pelican parts!
