3rd brake light

Default 3rd brake light
I have an '08 Mini Cooper and the 3rd brake light is out. The mechanic said the power going to it was good, so he needed to replace the light. He priced it at over $200 and then said with parts and labor it would cost just over $600. It seems expensive, but I wanted to check because I've never had it replaced before. Any advice would be great!
