Default Door handle troubles

2011 R56. Driver's side door handle will not engage after unlocking. Mostly happens on exterior, but sometimes even the interior as well. Multiple quick squeeze and release is currently the only work-around. Sometimes it takes 8-10 quick clicks to get it to engage. It's particularly frustrating when then interior latch won't engage, and I have to open the window and do the flick and release on the outside handle.

I HATE going to the dealer, since it always results in at least $300 worth of "routine maintenance," so any suggestions are appreciated.

Got SOME relief by pulling the little rubber thingy off the top corner of the door and spraying copious quantities of WD40 into what I hope was the latch linkage area. Now it only takes 2 squeezes to open the door. The first one feels just like the door is locked, but it engages on the second squeeze.

I guess once this stops working, I'll be forced to take the inside of the door off to see what's really wrong.

Did you ever figure this out? Having the same issue with my daughter's 2011 except she can't get the door to open all, so stuck with a car where doors won't open and can't get door pad off to investigate.

Thanks!

Default Ext cable link an latch mechanism

For those who experienced same.
i had same issue on my countryman.
The issue was that position of arm which is pulled by ext link is getting stuck before zero position. Mainly due to increased play . It’s like trying to open door from inside while someone is keeping door handle pressed..
Temporary I managed by shooting the door handle from pulled position so the impact helped in setting zero position on ext lever. The next try worked.
Now I need to replace it

When you say you managed by "shooting" the door handle from the pulled position...what do you mean? I'm having a similar problem.
