Default Heated Windshield Control

I just had a new windshield installed in my 2008 MCS but inadvertently ordered a heated windshield. I don’t care about the micro lines in the glass, but it got me wondering how feasible it would be to install a button and wiring to add this option to the car?

possible/worthwhile?

Default Heated screen

Not an expert, but should see it as an easy retro fit, could be wired into the circuit and control for the rear window, best thing give a local auto electrician a visit they will know the fastest and safest way to install, don't want to overload your electrical system.

Thanks for the info. It’s become moot now that I discovered that the windshield was mounted with no access to the connectors. Oh well, it was just a thought. 🧐

Adding a heated windshield function to your 2008 Mini Cooper S is technically possible but complicated. It would require running dedicated high-current wiring from the battery through a relay, installing a proper switch, and ensuring it is safely integrated with the car’s electrical system. Because your car wasn’t designed for this feature, it is a custom job that carries some risk of electrical issues. Most people in this situation either leave it as is, using the windshield without the heating function, or rely on aftermarket solutions like portable defrosting tools. Overall, it is feasible but not straightforward or necessarily cost-effective.
