Default help with buying a used cooper s JCW

Hello all, I am looking to buy a JCW cooper s model. I have my eye caught on one here in Los Angeles, CA. I am a car enthusiast and i know my way around cars but have never dealt with minis before. I am wondering if there is something specific i should look for when buying a used cooper from Craigslist. Here is the link of the cooper I am looking at.

2009 MINI COOPER COUPE JOHN COOPER WORKS JCW S

Is it fair priced? Im thinking its underpriced but there could be a reason why. (KBB value it at 8k-9k)Also is 120k miles a lot for these minis?

I am looking to find a 2007+ Mini Cooper S or better within the next month or two. My budget is at 8k but would like to stay under just incase something needs to be taken care of.

Thanks for reading. and any help is greatly appreciated.

Jim.

A lot of MINI people will tell you if you're wanting an R56 JCW, to go with a 2013 as those have the N18 engines. The N18's remedied a lot of issues that the previous N14 engines have. For just a MCS, same thing applies, but they changed over from the N14 to the N18 with 2011-2013. The N14's are known for timing chain issues, HPFP, cracked valve covers, oil turbo line leaks, etc. If you want to compare pricing, do so by looking at truecar.com, KBB, and even look at pricing in your area for similar MINI's on craigs list, cars.com, etc. This will give you a good idea of fair market value in your area.

For that JCW in specific, it states it has been maintained at MiniWorx. Give them a call and see what mechanical advice they can give you on the vehicle. I'd also maybe have them do a pre-purchase inspection if you're serious about buying it. That way you know what may or may not need fixing. Good luck!

Thanks for your help. I spoke to many sellers about the issues these minis have and it seems to have either not happen or beginning to happen. I got emotionally frustrated trying to find a decent one and just ended up buying a new cooper s. Thanks for you help PelicanParts. Appreciate it.

You're welcome and congratulations on your purchase. A MINI with a warranty is a good thing and now you are at ease of mind that you wont have to deal with paying out of pocket if issues arise. Enjoy!
