Default How to clear OBDII codes

2009 S hatchback. I recently replaced the plugs and coil packs after getting PO300, PO302, and PO304 codes on my code reader. The problem is now fixed and it is running fine, but the check engine light is still on and my scanner still has the same 3 codes showing up. When I try to erase the codes I get a failure message, so I borrowed another scanner from a friend. It does the exact same thing. I cannot erase the codes with either scanner. I disconnected the battery, and after that didn't work I disconnected it again and jumped the battery cables together and let it sit for 1/2 hour. Reconnected the battery, started it up and still have the same 3 codes and check engine light. Car now runs great, but how do I clear those codes and get the CEL off?

Most readers have the function to clear codes. The $13 one i bought on amazon can. Look for a clear in the menu nearby where you looked them up.

That's what I meant by getting a failure message from the erase code menu.

I recently replaced a dme because it had a bunch of fault codes stored that was impossible to erase. Not saying this is your case, but just saying... Outputs not working properly so the feedback were not right... Making the dtc's impossible to erase.

I figured it out. Never assume the new guy knows the basics.I'm new to Minis. Mine has the "hockey puck" key. My scanner was failing when I tried to erase the codes. It said to have key on with the engine off. I just had to figure out how to get the key at position 2. But thanks for the reply.

How did you get the key at position 2? I'm having the same problem / getting the same message.

Insert the key as usual but do not push in on the clutch or brake pedal, then press the start button.
