Default Mini Cooper 1.6 Suspected Brake Vacuum Pump oil leak

Hello,

I recently noticed oil spots under my 2007 r56 mini 1.6 and after I carried out a thorough inspection, I suspect the leak is coming under the brake vacuum pump.

I ordered a new o-ring from Mini (supposed to be original although not convinced about it - see picture) to replace the current one. However when I opened the pump the current o-ring had no damage to it but it was stuck on the engine when I removed the pump, so perhaps it could be that the ring moved which is what was causing the leak? See the picture.

It’s been a day since I’ve replaced it and I still see a small oil spot so I’m concerned the leak hasn’t been fixed.

Just to clarify the leak is spotted where the pump attaches to the engine, it does not come from inside the pump hence I doubt it needs rebuilding.

Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.

This is the original replacement o ring

This is the moment I removed the pump where you can see the existing o ring stuck on the engine

This is the pump with the replacement o ring fitted on it

I have the same problem. Were you able to fix since?

yeah, just replace the pump as soon as you can. Don’t try and repair it, just replace it with a new one you can find online.

Thank you for your response. I replaced the o-ring 3x figuring I did something wrong. The oil leak is definitely from the o-ring interface area. I guess the vacuum pump housing warps over time - one of the bolts sits way too far - poor design, if this is the case.
