Well Im new here. My wife bought an 07 Mini last summer. Thought I would join up here for any questions. Anyway I was gettin ready to do the oil change on it. I read the posts about that and removing the overflow bottle and whatnot. Should I be using oil from the dealer? I got castrol syntec and it says meets standards for BMW. This should be fine wont it?

 

As long as the oil meets the same SAE specifications... it's pretty much the same oil. Near the oil dipstick on my R56, it says "Mini recommends Castrol". It's actually stamped into the plastic.

 

Was the oil really of castrol? Not a duplicate one.

 

MINI uses Castrol Synthetic.
