Post-warranty maintenance concerns

Post-warranty maintenance concerns
We are currently considering a new "S" to replace our existing '03 Honda Element.
A co-worker owned an '07 "S", but sold it a short time ago.
When queried for the reason, he said that, while the Mini was the best car he ever owned, he was concerned about the cost of maintaining it after the warranty expired.
We would most likely be dealing with Orlando Mini for our service needs.
Can anyone offer any high mileage experience with this series of car relative to the required maintenance and repairs and their cost?
Thanks!
Bob

Personally I'd avoid the dealer for oil changes , at over $130 I can do it for $40 watching sales and getting genuine mini filters, even quick change places are $60-or less
If repairs are a worry they offer extended warranty..
I've got an 05 75k and no issues
high mileage is an 04 with 300k on a second tranny and clutch no issues

I can do fluids and filters, wheel rotation, brake pads and the like.
I just wanted to get a feel for what sorts of maintenance and repair issues were cropping up in the '07 and later turbo versions of the "S".

After the Warranty
Hi,
First thing to do is buy an extended warranty, we bought one for our 07' Mini from Autoland that is 6 years 90000 miles for $1097 and covers all the problems that can crop up on these little gems.
Mini's can be very expencive to fix, and a good backup plan can make it feel better.

If you've owned BMW's in the past, I would think that the maintenance on a Mini would cost about the same. Most of the parts for the Mini are labeled "BMW", as are some of the instructions provided for maintenance.
Be aware that there is an extended warranty, and there is also an extended maintenance program. Maintenance, such as oil and filter changes, are free up to 36k miles/3 years. The maintenance plan doesn't include warranty repairs, just regularly scheduled maintenance. Make sure you pick the right plan.
I just replace my front brakes, including discs, and the job was very straightforward. If you've ever done that work yourself, which you said you have, you'll have no problem with regular maintenance on a Mini.
