users manual says "push SPORT button, makes car sportier, etc etc---"" but does not tell me what it is doing.. locking auto in 3rd gear? locking torque converter?? advancing timing 4 degrees, etc.. how is auto acting "sportier",,?? has to be doing something to accomplish this "sportier" car.

It changes shift point on the transmission , it basically keeps the revs up so you are more in the power band

From what I was told from the sales person it also tightens up the steering as well as upping the performance. I haven't tried it yet.

I looked in the manual and see no electrical connection to the steering so unsure if they led you astray as some salesmen do ...

I was wondering how it could tighten up the steering since it is so tight to begin with. Maybe he was misinformed or misspoke. On every other matter he was upfront unlike most sales people in the car world. When I get a chance I will put it through the paces and see if I noticed a difference.

Minis use an electrical power steering unit and looking at the schematic all I see is source 12 volts to the power steering unit and the cooling fan both feed off relays/fuses

The sport button basically is made to increase driving performance and vehicle handling by changing accelerator pedal ratio (throttle by wire) for quicker response .Also when presessed, initially increases boost pressure on S models.
That is all it does ladies and gentelman....
